Let´s stick with the example we´ve already used as basis in the 1st article "Your first calculation with PackApp". Remember the calculation result showing us we needed a 40 ´ container?
Reviewing the loading plan, we can see that some packages have been stacked automatically (green), but others not (blue and red).
Why is that?
The standard setting for loading transportation units requires PackApp to stack packages up to the maximum height of the container as long as no other restrictions are being applied. As you can see packages A (height 1.4 m) and C (height 1.2 m) cannot be stacked due to their measures. The usable height for stacking in a 40 ´ container usually is 2.38m, already including a safety margin of 2 cm.
Now let´s assume packages A and C feature a respectively lower height so that stacking would be possible. What would the accordingly calculated storage plan look like?
Due to less loading meters the now possible stacking of all packages allows the complete loading in the smaller 20´ container.
Of course you do not need to know in advance which size of containers you will need to load your packages efficiently. As soon as you are registered, PackApp helps you by automatically picking the smallest size possible based on your specifications.
Another reason packages might not get stacked is due to loading restrictions specified for the packages beforehand. Sometimes individual packages have to be loaded in a certain manner or have to have a certain place in the container. In such a case PackApp offers you several tools to ensure those loading requirements will be implemented accordingly in the storage plan.
The options available for the packages for example allow us to determine whether the package may be rotated, stacked as the lowest, stacked on top or simply not at all.
In this example we don´t want the packages to be stacked as lowest. Let´s check “No” next to “Stackable as lower part”. This is the result:
