But what if I need to implement specific packing requirements?
We already know that PackApp enables us to calculate quickly how many containers and loading meters will be required for a specific packing list. First enter or upload the packing list, then start the automatic calculation and the finished list will be displayed within a few seconds only.
A lot of time and effort saved!
But what can I do if there are specific loading requirements I have to adhere to? Simply utilize PackApp´s versatile options to customize the calculation process to your specifications.
PackApp provides optimal support in regard to all necessary modification and allows for easy and uncomplicated implementation of said requirements.
You can
- Change and set the stacking order manually (e.g. grouping)
- Specify package positions via editing of the calculation result (e.g. switching or relocating)
- Set a specific package position within the loading plan (e.g. center)
- Define packages´ loading priority
1. Change and set the stacking order
During the automatic calculation packages are being stacked on basis of fixed settings. Packages with the same or similar size are stacked up to a certain height that is determined by the chosen transportation unit.
With one click on “stacking assistant” in the input form all generated stackings are being displayed both as graphics and the corresponding data set.
Intervene here in the stacking display to e.g. form groupings of certain packages that are known to be convenient to combine.
Take a look at the following example: Several packages are being combined into a group, i.e. virtually “glued” to each other, in order to place a longer package on top. The set arrangement then will be transferred to the calculation result.
Tip:
Start off with the automatic stacking for the calculation to get a quick result. Then use “New Calculation” in the stacking assistant to implement any changes to the stacking. As long as the packing list itself is not modified, an unlimited amount of “try outs” to the stacking can be calculated without any further costs.
2. Editing the result
If you´re satisfied with the overall result of the automatic calculations, but want to adjust some specifications, use the result editor in order to:
- Move packages within the container
- Switch packages
- Shift packages between containers (via clipboard)
- Change the stackings
- Remove packages from the calculation result and insert them into a new pack listing or combine them with another packing list (see “organize your transports”)

3. Set a package´s position
This option does not aim for optimization of a calculation result, but rather focuses on creating a customized loading plan according to set specifications.
For example, it may make sense to load certain packages into the container first, because they will be unloaded as the last ones. Or maybe you want to put an especially heavy and large package right in the center of the container in order to influence its center of gravity.
Use the option “Fixed position” in the stacking assistant to choose specific positions within the chosen transportation unit (container/truck) and PackApp will proceed to pack the rest of the packing list around the centered package. The achieved result may not be optimized regarding loading meters anymore, but will definitely reflect your loading specifications.
4. Define packages´ loading priority
On entering the packing list you can assign a loading priority to each item. You can choose between “High”, “Normal” and “Low”.
This option proves useful, if a transport comprises more than one transportation unit. Packages classified as “High” will be loaded with priority into the first container. The remaining space will then be filled with the rest of the packages.
In that case PackApp offers you the option to extract these packages from the current transport in form of a separated packing list which can be merged with other packing lists at a later time. (see “organize your transports”)
